Born in the midst of the French Reign of Terror, this brave woman joined her brother, a priest, as he worked underground. She was educated, learned embroidery, and began to secretly teach the catechism to children.
When her brother’s superior asked her to join him in creating a new educational religious society, she immediately began teaching. She later opened a convent for the Order and was elected Superior General for life. Her group opened more than 100 schools all over the world in the 63 years in which she ran it, and the Society of the Sacred Heart still continues her work today.
